The A5 runs for 300 miles from London to Holyhead and was originally a Roman trade route. Cameras travel along this major thoroughfare, meeting some of the emigres and exiles who live close to the road and have come to Britain in search of a better life. Subjects include Irish singer-songwriter Keelta O’Higgins, a Viennese Jew called Peggy Roth, who harbours dark memories of the Holocaust, and an Indian hotel concierge, who battles bureaucratic red tape to secure a visa for his loving wife.
