A deadly epidemic devastates a remote Cornish village, killing many of the young workers. Local doctor, Peter Thompson, is powerless to stop the onslaught so he telephones Professor James Forbes for help. Forbes agrees to lend his expertise and he travels to the village with his daughter Sylvia. As the newcomers investigate, the deceased appear to come back to life and the village is soon besieged by the slavering hordes.
