A revival of Bartlett Sher's effervescent production of Rossini's comedy starring Andrey Zhilikhovsky as charming barber Figaro, broadcast live from the stage of The Metropolitan Opera House in New York. Count Almaviva hopes to woo fair maiden Rosina but he knows that her father, Dr Bartolo, would disapprove. So the Count enlists the help of the barber Figaro, who suggests that Almaviva should adopt the guise of a young soldier seconded to Dr Bartolo.
