The concluding chapter of The Australian Ballet's trilogy of performances dubbed The Fairy Tale Series centres on Swanilda, who is madly in love with Franz. She becomes irritated with her beau when she catches him staring adoringly at the daughter of their neighbour, the eccentric and sinister toymaker Dr Coppelius. Swanilda slips into Dr Coppelius' house, where she discovers that her rival for Franz's affections is in fact a doll.
