Born and raised in Ontario, ballet dancer Karen Kain was artistic director of the National Ballet of Canada for 16 years, completing her tenure in 2021 as the world emerged from the Covid lockdowns. For her final project before retirement, Kain directed a new staging of Swan Lake.
