Grieving widower Eric Black returns home to the Scottish Highlands following the death of his wife Rachel and is met with fiery indignation from his estranged, religious mother Glenys. To clear his head, Eric responds to a job advertisement for a shepherd on a remote west coast island tending to more than 600 sheep. A boat woman called Fisher transports Eric and his dog Baxter to their temporary home. When the beloved pet goes missing, Eric's sanity slowly unravels.
