Los Angeles weatherman Sean is devastated by the end of his relationship to long-term partner Carlos. His boss Ash and colleague Suzie urge Sean to take time off to lick his emotional wounds. He decides to sand and repaint the wooden decking of his home to effectively wipe the slate clean. Sean hires Mexican immigrant Ernesto to carry out the work then strikes up an odd-couple relationship with the straight married labourer to fill the void left by Carlos.
