Croatian soldier Ciki and Serbian fighter Nino are trapped together in a trench between enemy lines. If either man attempts to leave the hiding place, they will be shot by enemy troops, if they stay, they could be blown up by a spring mine lodged beneath the body of an unconscious comrade. A UN observer and a television reporter Jane become involved in this stalemate, and the world watches in silence as a fragile deal is brokered to prevent bloodshed.
