On the battlefields, Macbeth encounters a trio of witches and a child, who foretell his rise through the ranks and eventful coronation at the expense of King Duncan. Aided by his wife, Macbeth murders the monarch and frames his manservants. The king's son Malcolm flees and Banquo - who is party to the witches' proclamation - naturally suspects Macbeth's trembling hand in the foul play.

Kit Monkman directs a radical reworking of Shakespeare’s brutal tragedy, using green screen technology, background matte painting and computer modelling to create fantastical backdrops to the blood-letting and betrayal. Brilliant young general Macbeth distinguishes himself on the battlefield and he returns to the court of King Duncan, who fails to honour the returning hero. Feeling disgruntled, Macbeth is visited by three witches, who suggest he will become the new king.
