Fiftysomething philosophy professor Gilles is in the throes of amour fou with a younger woman, Ariane. At 23, Ariane is the same age as Gilles’ grown-up daughter Jeanne and friction is inevitable when Jeanne is forced to move back home to live with her father after her relationship ends in heartbreak. At first, Ariane and Jeanne are openly antagonistic towards each other. Over time, enmity between the young women mellows into friendship and they inspire each other to seek fulfilment outside of their current relationships.
