When the local mine closes and Lassie’s family falls on hard times, the mother and father reluctantly sell their cherished pooch to the wealthy Duke Of Rudling, who can properly attend to the animal. However, Lassie yearns to be with his former owners and she continually escapes from her kennel. When the Duke and his granddaughter go to Scotland for the holidays, Lassie embarks on a marathon trek back home in time for Christmas, meeting myriad colourful characters along the way.
