A little girl called Shula is standing on a dusty road when a woman walking towards her trips and falls, spilling a bucket of water that is balanced on her head. The woman responds by labelling Shula a witch. Tembo, who oversees a camp of suspected witches, takes ownership of Shula and attaches a giant spindle of white ribbon to the girl’s back. The ribbon will supposedly stop Shula from using her powers to fly away. The little girl is taken under the wing of the witch camp elders.
