The formidable falcon Shadow swoops down on flocks of plover as they migrate back to their homeland. Numbers decrease and the birds’ morale is depleted until the birth of an energetic chick called Ploey. He brings a newfound sense of optimism to the flock and subsequently falls in love with a beautiful female chick called Ploverina. Fate cruelly conspires against Ploey and he cannot take flight, while the rest of the birds including Ploverina head across the ocean for the winter.
