German General Dietrich von Choltitz has been ordered by Adolf Hitler to destroy some of the most famous landmarks and monuments in Paris from his base at the Hotel Meurice. On August 24, 1944, the Eiffel Tower, Louvre, Place de la Concorde and Notre Dame will be reduced to rubble. As the designated hour approaches, Swedish diplomat Raoul Nordling uses a secret passageway to sneak into the general’s chamber and beg von Choltitz to reconsider.
