He is intrigued by the announcement of the 1968 Golden Globe Race supported by the Sunday Times, which is promising a £5000 first prize to the sailor who can circumnavigate the globe single-handedly in the quickest time. Donald dreams of glory and he risks his house and business to build a state-of-the-art triple-hulled yacht called the Teignmouth Electron.
