In December 2013, Bolshoi Ballet soloist Pavel Dmitrichenko received a six-year jail sentence for throwing sulphuric acid in the face of the theatre’s artistic director, Sergei Filin. The trial exposed bitter rivalries and protracted infighting at one of Russia’s most famous ballet and opera companies. This documentary goes backstage to chronicle the day-to-day activities of the cultural institution, capturing intimate footage of the dancers in a crucible of ruthless ambition.
