A Scottish captain called Robinson is laid off from a salvage company and desperately needs to find new employment. He comes into possession of a map of the Black Sea that gives the location of a downed German submarine, which reportedly sank during the Second World War with a vast cargo of gold bullion. Robinson hastily assembles a crew of salty seadogs as well as some Russian crew to take charge of the submarine. As the men descend into the Black Sea, fear and paranoia take a vice-like grip.
