In 1847, Ireland is in the grip of the Great Famine. Martin Feeney returns home from his tour of duty with the Connaught Rangers to learn that his mother has died. His brother’s widow Ellie takes him in with her three children and they make plans to move to America. Unfortunately, the Royal Irish Constabulary (RIC) evict Martin, Ellie and the children from their squat. In the ensuing struggle, Feeney lashes out to protect what remains of his family and kills members of the RIC.
