Yunus Ogretmen and his sweetheart Dilek move from Turkey to Kazakhstan, where they plan to build a school. In the process, they learn about aunt Cennet, who was imprisoned by the Nazis during the Second World War and fell under the spell of a Soviet officer called Niyaz. This romance during a time of conflict and barbarity unfolds in flashback, reliving the ebb and flow of the relationship between the young Cennet and Niyaz in testing circumstances.
