Documentary about the Memphis band, who are regarded as seminal in the history of alternative music. Their story began in the late 1960s when 16-year-old lead singer Alex Chilton courted dizzying fame with The Box Tops, who topped the charts with the song The Letter. Chilton subsequently met singer, songwriter and guitarist Chris Bell and they provided the creative spark of Big Star. The band recorded three LPs then imploded in 1978 with the death of Bell.
