The three-part impressionistic portrait interrogates layers of capitalism in the country. Firstly, there are the workers tirelessly involved in factory production, then a middle class devoted to selling aspirational wares to consumers, and finally the obscenely wealthy and privileged perched on the uppermost rungs of China's social ladder.
