In the 1960s, US President John F Kennedy met with King Shah of Afghanistan to establish the Afghan Film Archive on behalf of the American people. When the Taliban came to power in 1996, they decreed that film was heretical and all examples of the moving image in Afghanistan must be destroyed. This fascinating documentary meets three men – Arify, Isaaq and Mahmoud – part of a group of brave and dedicated cinephiles, who have sometimes risked their lives to preserve hours of footage.
