Abel is silently crushed when his girlfriend Marianne reveals she is leaving to have a baby with his best friend Paul. Many years pass and Abel is unable to recover from Marianne's desertion. He receives news that Paul has died and attends the funeral, hoping for a reconciliation with the object of enduring desire. Unexpectedly, Paul's younger sister Eve catches his eye and she aggressively pursues him in direct competition with Marianne.
