“It makes you feel so proud; it makes me feel proud to be British,” said Pendleton, who was confirmed today as a starter in the next series of Strictly Come Dancing.
“We did such a good job of hosting the games.”
The parade closed the 2012 Olymics and Paralympics with live performances from The Pet Shop Boys, Amy McDonald, Katherine Jenkins and The Noisettes.
British athletes who had competed in the Games were transported through central London to outside Buckingham Palace, where speeches were given by London Mayor Boris Johnson and Prime Minister David Cameron before pop acts took to the stage.
Amy MacDonald was first to perform on the Queen Victoria (the 19th century, non-cycling version) Memorial, singing her song Pride, accompanied by acoustic guitar.
She later tweeted: “Thank you so much for all the lovely messages. I felt so honoured to be there today and to be part of an amazing celebration for Team GB!”
The Pet Shop Boys then played a number of their songs including West End Girls, Go West and the aptly-titled Winner.
Katherine Jenkins sung the British national anthem, God Save the Queen before The Noisettes closed the show.
