Uma Thurman is being sued by French cosmetics company Lancome.

The Kill Bill star – who complained Lancome had used unauthorised pictures of her on Canadian advertising billboards and Asian websites after her contract with them had expired – is now being sued by the company, who claim the actress is not entitled to the USD1 million she is demanding.
However, Thurman’s lawyer says he was surprised by the lawsuit, adding: “I thought we were negotiating in good faith. I guess the French decided to strike a pre-emptive blow.
“But I’m delighted that the case will go before a jury. They got an enormous benefit throughout the world after the contract was over, and USD1 million doesn’t begin to do it.”
Thurman first signed a two-year contract with the cosmetics giant in April 2000, for which she was paid USD5.8 million for the first two years and USD3.1 million for each additional year the contract was extended.
Lancome insist the contract ensures they are not responsible for any third parties using her name and photograph after the contract expires. The company’s lawyer Peter D. Raymond said they “can’t control everybody out in the world”.
This is the latest in a series of legal battles for Thurman.
Earlier this week, Jack Jordan was convicted of stalking and harassing the 38 year-old actress in Manhattan’s Supreme Court.
