She recounted one incident where Jordan had delivered her a card showing a picture of an open grave and a man standing on a razor blade, bearing the message, “My hands should be on your body at all times”.

Thurman said: “I was completely freaked out. It was like a nightmare. It was scary.”

The 38-year-old actress also revealed when she warned her family in New York to about Jordan, she was stunned to discover they had also been contacted by him.

She said: “I felt a stone drop in my stomach. The idea that this had a history made it even more terrifying.”

Thurman also told the court about an email Jordan had sent her insisting her two children – nine-year-old Maya and six-year-old Levon Roan – do not exist, and referring to them as “an illusion”.

She added: “I don’t think any mother or parent would want a stranger to fixate on their children, and fixate on them not existing. That was terrifying to me.”

If Jordan – who did not look at Thurman throughout the trial because “we didn’t want to make her feel uncomfortable”, according to defence lawyer George Vomvolakis – could be jailed for up to a year if found guilty of attempting to commit crime of coercion in the first degree, stalking in the fourth degree and aggravated harassment in the second degree.
