Despite landing a role alongside Jessie J, Danny O’Donoghue and will.i.am on the panel of BBC One’s The Voice, the Welsh crooner has got his eye on a position on the rival ITV1 talent show that Simon Cowell is in charge of.
He told the Daily Star: “I would like to be a judge on The X Factor, for sure. These talent shows are a good thing, but only as long as the kids are treated properly.
“They go straight in at the deep end and are not ready for it. That’s my only fear.”
However, while the Delilah hitmaker is looking forward to his new role on the panel of The Voice, Jessie J recently admitted she doesn’t like the concept of being a judge, as she doesn’t think she’s had a “long enough career”.
She said: “I don’t like the idea of being a judge, but I like the idea of being a coach. I don’t like judging people, you know? I’m 23 and I don’t feel like I’ve had a long enough career to have the right to tell people my opinion,
“Everybody’s taste in music is different, so I might think someone isn’t so good, while someone else reckons they’re amazing.
“I’m going in hardcore. I’m not someone who says, ‘You’re great’. I won’t kiss people’s arses. I look for technique, mic control, breathing, passion, determination, hard work, voice, tone, star quality – all of it. I’m about the singing.”
