At last night’s prize ceremony held at the Grosvenor House hotel, the band admitted they had made the self-titled album that won the award in a garage.

“We made this album in a converted garage,” said singer Romy Madley Croft.

“We felt very lucky at the time to use it, but I think we’d love to make our own studio, somewhere where we can just experiment.”

The xx hail from Putney, south London, and met at the area’s Elliott School, which appears to be a nest of musical invention as it was also the alma mater of Hot Chip, The Maccabees and Four Tet.
