Fans were told that three gigs in the Emerald Isle were called off due to the singer’s exhaustion, but Doherty has now revealed that it was only a brush with death that caused him to miss the trip.
“If I hadn’t been on a life support machine I’d have been in Ireland,” Doherty told the NME.
“But my heart stopped.”
Before anyone jumps to conclusions, the Babyshambles star was quick to rule out drugs as the cause of his ticker-trouble.
The doctors’ “immediate thought was that it was to do with drugs but it wasn’t,” he said.
“What happened? Well, I don’t know. I don’t remember. I was running into the walls, making steering wheel signs with my hands. And then I just stopped. My body just stopped.”
