The model, who is married to 62-year-old rocker Rod Stewart, says receiving harsh criticism on Strictly Come Dancing brought back painful memories of her teenage years.

Penny, who broke down in tears when she was voted off the BBC series on Sunday (11.11.07), said: ‘I was badly bullied at school so I’m more sensitive to criticism. My mother taught me to smile, rather than cry, in the face of ignorance and I still use this reverse psychology today.’

The 36-year-old star, who gave birth to son Alastair in November 2005, also revealed she never followed in the footsteps of other celebrity mothers and became ‘obsessed’ about losing her post-baby weight because Rod loved her new curves. She added to the Daily Express: ‘Men don’t find size zero attractive. It’s curves that get their blood pumping! A lot of celebrities obsess with getting skinny again after giving birth but I love my new fuller figure and so does Rod.’

Penny even claimed she ‘hated’ her pre-baby slim figure.
She said: ‘Before having my son Alastair two years ago, my body was straight up and down. I used to hate seeing ribs and bones. Now that I’ve filled out in places. I feel more feminine.’
