“I’ve just been to hell folks and it’s called Miami airport,” said O’Grady last night after his ordeal on the way back to the UK from Peru, a route which entailed a stop in Miami.

O’Grady was held in a special room, had his passport confiscated and was questioned on his status, under suspicion of being an illegal alien.

“Every time I said, ‘Excuse me, can you tell me why am I here?’, they just ignored me,” O’Grady told The Mirror.

“It was so rude.”

The comedian/chat-show host reckons the reason for his treatment was his Liverpool accent, which apparently came across as Cuban to airport goons.

“This guy said to me, ‘He thinks you’re a Cuban immigrant’.

“I said, ‘cos I look Cuban, don’t I? ‘You’ve been studying my passport for the last hour and you can see I’ve never been to Cuba in my life’.”
