The One That Got Away hitmaker – who was handed divorce papers by husband Russell Brand at the end of December – is reportedly using the ITV1 period drama to get over her own love split, as she “really identifies” with the characters’ emotional worries.
An insider said: “Katy’s obsessed with the series and its characters, but it’s a way of escaping what’s going on between her and Russell.
“She really identifies with the romance and the emotional angst and she loves all the costumes.”
The 27-year-old beauty is even considering seeking inspiration from the period costumes featured in Downton for her own stage shows.
A source added to the Daily Star: “She is even basing some of her new stage outfits on Downton. She’s told her designers to work on them, and on the hairstyles.”
However, Katy is not the only A-lister to love the show, as Laura Carmichael – who plays Lady Edith Crawley in Downton – recently explained Hollywood star Harrison Ford is keen to bag a role.
She said: “We’re so popular Harrison Ford wants a part.”
Meanwhile, Girls Aloud singer Nicola Roberts is equally “obsessed” with the series to the extent that she feels it’s “real life”.
She explained: “I’m obsessed with that show. I would love to be in it, even if it was just for one episode. It’s so amazing, I actually feel like it’s real life. My friends all think I’m really weird.”
