Speaking at the people’s premiere of Hellboy II: The Golden Army the actor – who plays Professor Trevor ‘Broom’ Bruttenholm in the film – admitted fans of the comic book franchise enjoy dressing as their favourite characters and are often overwhelmed when they meet him.
He told BANG Showbiz: “The fans can be fanatical and they like getting dressed up. I went to one of those conventions and there were some strange people there, but they were all great.”
The actor also revealed working on the film was a joy, and said Guillermo del Toro was a “phenomenal director”.
He said: “I introduce the film, in a sense. I’ve enjoyed playing Broom again. Guillermo is just a phenomenal director. I’d do anything for him. Anything he asked me to do I would do.”
The actor also spoke about his plans to re-visit one of his most famous characters, the outrageous and flamboyant homosexual Quentin Crisp who he played in the Naked Civil Servant.
He said: “I’m going to do the last 20 years of Quentin Crisp’s life. It’s daunting. It’s a long way to go back but I’m looking forward to it.”
