The 53-year-old comedian was driving alone in New York’s Hamptons district last Saturday night when his brakes failed. He tried to use the emergency brake, but flipped the car over as he attempted to avoid crashing into an intersection.

The two-door vehicle somersaulted completely, turning on its passenger side, the roof and the driver’s side, before coming to a stop just a few feet away from the highway.

East Hampton Town Police Chief Todd Sarris said: “Mr. Seinfeld’s manoeuvre probably avoided a very serious accident.”

After walking away unharmed from the accident, ‘Bee Movie’ star Seinfeld returned to his home in the east Hamptons without needing any medical attention.

His wife Jessica said: “He was a little shocked when he walked in and it started to dawn on him what happened. It could have been a lot worse, obviously, and thank God it wasn’t. He’s fine.”

Seinfeld added: “Because I know there are kids out there, I want to make sure they all know that driving without braking is not something I recommend, unless you have professional clown training or a comedy background, as I do. It is not something I plan to make a habit.”
