Linda Marie Bollea filed for divorce last Tuesday (20.11.07) and is hoping the drastic action will encourage her wrestler husband to make him work at salvaging their relationship.
A source said: ‘She keeps saying to him, ‘Can’t we find a way to make this work?’
‘She doesn’t want to see the family break-up. She really wants to work it out with him. But it is like pushing up against a brick wall. She is heartbroken about it.’
Meanwhile, Hulk – real name Terry Gene Bollea – is keen to dismiss reports a Florida newspaper reporter informed him his wife was divorcing him after 24 years.
A source told gossip website TMZ.com: ‘He actually heard it from his lawyer. There was no surprise. It had been coming for a while. They have grown to be two different people.’
The insider added the final straw came when the couple’s son Nick lost his driver’s licence last week after being found guilty of dangerous driving.
The source said: ‘When hardships hit them, it really brings them down. And when they were finally hit with a real problem, when Nick crashed his car, they just couldn’t make it work.’
The 54-year-old former WWE wrestler married Linda, 48, in 1983 and the couple have two children, 19-year-old daughter Brooke, an aspiring singer, and 17-year-old son Nick.
Nick could face felony charges in connection with the street-racing crash, which left his passenger in a coma with a broken skull earlier this year.
The family starred together in VH1 reality show Hogan Knows Best.
