The 18-year-old – who served 166 days after pleading no contest to charges of reckless driving following a car crash in August 2007 which left his best friend John Graziano in a critical condition – wants to clean up his life and continue with his education, says his mother Linda Bollea.

Linda revealed: “He went into prison as a juvenile, and you know he has experienced something that is going to mould and change him for the rest of his life, for his adult life. He wants to make a positive difference in this world.

“I cried when I hugged him. He has changed for the better. You know he really just wants to try to be serious and make a difference, wants to look into colleges and just be a kid.

“Basically we just feel that we as a family want to stay private. In the future, I think his actions will speak louder than words.”

Nick – real name Terry Bollea – was sentenced to eight months but was released early for “good behaviour” on Tuesday (21.10.08).

He was greeted by his sister Brooke who took him straight to the family’s home in nearby Clearwater.

Nick spent his first day of freedom meeting with his lawyer, probation officer and doctor.
