The 18-year-old actor – who has played teen wizard Harry in all five of the hit fantasy films – insists the sixth instalment, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, will have drug metaphors and sexual references similar to the 1996 film about Scottish heroin addicts.

He told Empire magazine: “There is a fair amount of sexual energy and there are some drug parallels. We have a couple of Trainspotting moments.

“That’s two films I never thought would be mentioned in the same breath!”

The latest film, based on JK Rowling’s best selling sixth book, explores the evil Lord Voldemort’s past and sees Harry prepare for his biggest battle with his nemesis.

Daniel added: “There’s a great balance. The light parts are lighter than before, and the dark parts are extremely dark.”
