KASABIAN and Florence and the Machine are joint favourites for this year’s Mercury Prize, after the nominations list was released today.

Both acts are rated 5/1 shots by bookmakers William Hill, who have BatForLashes, La Rouxand Glasvegas just behind on 6/1.
After being surprisingly overlooked for this year’s gong, Lily Allen has thrown her support behind fellow solo singer La Roux.
“I hope La Roux wins,” was the Allen’s short but sweet message on Twitter.
Picked by a panel of music industry leading lights and other reprobates, the Mercury Prize is seen as one of the most prestigious on the award circuit.
Unlike other awards, it has just the one category, for Best Album, and here are those nominations in full:
