The sci-fi franchise’s producers are reportedly planning several standalone films while Episode VII – which is being directed by Star Trek: Into Darkness filmmaker JJ Abrams – is in production and McGregor would love to reprise his role as Jedi Obi-Wan Kenobi, who he played in the three prequel films.

Speaking to MTV News, he said: “I think it’s a good idea. The only bit that I could get away with doing is after the last one I made, Episode III, before Alec Guinness, there’s that period where he’s in the desert.”

Referring to the period of time in between the two trilogies, where Anakin Skywalker has transformed into villain Darth Vader and before his son Luke Skywalker meets Old Ben Kenobi, McGregor continued: “That might be my window, there, to tell that story. I don’t know what he did in the desert. We could make up some stuff.

“I’d be up for it. Could be quite exciting. I’d be up for it, for sure, of course.”

It was announced last Wednesday (06.02.13) that Walt Disney Pictures, who bought original director George Lucas’ company LucasFilm last year – are planning to create a young Han Solo trilogy, originally played by Harrison Ford, and another spin-off following the adventures of bounty hunter Boba Fett.

Disney chief Bob Iger confirmed: “We plan to make Star Wars 7, 8 and 9 over roughly a six-year period of time starting in 2015.

“But there are going to be a few other films released in that period of time, too.”
