Duchess Catherine is hoping to stage her own photography exhibition in the next few years in aid of her chosen charities, which could receive thousands of pounds as a result of a display.

A royal source told the Daily Telegraph: “Photography is a great passion for the duchess and she continues to pursue it avidly. It is a real release for her and she takes her work very seriously.

“She knows a lot of photographers and bounces her work off them and has considered staging an exhibition of her works at some point in the future, possibly in aid of one or several of the organisations she supports.

“The duchess acknowledges that she is in a unique position compared to other established photographers who have had years within their professional careers to develop their work.

“She would like to continue to develop her work privately before being subjected to that kind of public scrutiny but an exhibition in the next few years is an idea she would be keen on.”

The duchess – who wrote her university dissertation on the photography of the Alice in Wonderland author Lewis Carroll – is thought to keep a portfolio of photographs at the home she shares with Prince William in Anglesey and at Kensington Palace.

Last year, the royal couple – who tied the knot in April 2011 – embarked on a tour of Canada and California, and Catherine was often spotted taking personal photographs of their trip.
