CHRISTINE BLEAKLEY’S exit from Daybreak moved a step closer as the ITV breakfast show’s ratings fell over a million behind its BBC rival for the first time.

In newly published figures, Daybreak pulled in an average of just 700,000 viewers, compared to BBC Breakfast’s 1.8 million.

An ITV spokesperson said that the channel was keen to “welcome new audiences to Daybreak” but reports suggest the bad audience ratings are set to push Bleakley over the edge.

“Christine is extremely frustrated that Daybreak’s ratings aren’t improving,” a friend of the presenter told the Daily Mail.

“She is ambitious and her reason for leaving the BBC was that she thought Daybreak would make her career more high profile.”

Plans are thought to be afoot to find a new show for the £1M a year star, with a role on X Factor one possibility.
