The Princess Diaries star hit the former WWE wrestler – also known as The Rock – while filming an action scene for new spy comedy film Get Smart.
But Hathaway insists the ex-grappler didn’t take the blow to the skull too badly.
She told BANG Showbiz: “What can I say about Mr Dwayne Johnson? If you kick him in the head he’s nice about it.
“In the scene where I kick him in the head I would like everyone to know that it actually happened and, for the last time, I’m very, very, very sorry about it.”
The 25-year-old actress also revealed she is great friends with her co-star Steve Carell – who stars in the US version of Ricky Gervais’ hit sit-com The Office – insisting he is “lovely”.
She said: “I wish I had a secret to tell about him but he is just lovely and think everyone can tell that.”
