Abdallah returns to an isolated village on the edge of the Mauritian desert to reconnect with his people, where his elderly yet wise mother Soukeyna struggles to help him adapt. He befriends orphan boy Khatra, the apprentice of the village electrician Maata, who busily ensures all of the houses have the light they need, often travelling long distances to deliver lightbulbs to his customers.
