Octogenarian Holocaust survivor Madame Rosa is a devoted guardian to street orphans in the port city of Bari in present-day Puglia. Twelve-year-old Momo steals Rosa's bag but local doctor Coen catches him and forces the wastrel to apologise. Against her better judgment, Rosa agrees to become Momo's protector. The two outcasts find solace in each other's company. When Momo becomes increasingly aware of the elderly woman's declining mental health, he resolves to fend off the spectre of dementia.
