Miss Giddens is hired as a governess to children Flora and Miles on a large country estate. Concerned by the bizarre behaviour of her young wards, Miss Giddens soon suspects that the children are in the thrall of the ghosts that haunt the enormous house. She fears that the spirits of cruel groundsman Quint and the previous governess Miss Jessel are possessing the youngsters in order to continue their former life. Somehow, Miss Giddens must break the spell and free the children from their supernatural servitude.
