Endel Nelis arrives in the Estonian town of Haapsalu to take up the position of PE teacher at the local high school. Initially, Endel shows very little affection for his young charges but he does set up a fencing club, which proves incredibly popular with both students and parents. Two youngsters in particular, Jaan and Marta, have a profound effect on Endel and melt his frosty exterior. His rising popularity grates with the officious school headmaster, who slyly digs into Endel’s shady past.
