In the 1960s, North African immigrants flocked to Belgium in search of a better life. Women were compelled to leave everything behind and follow their men – their protestations and fears were repeatedly deflected with a single sentence: “Patience, patience – you’ll get to heaven.” This life-affirming documentary meets seven North African Muslim women who came to Brussels 50 years ago and have raised their families behind closed doors. Only now are they beginning to taste freedom and independence.
