Talented cellist Daigo Kobayashi moves back to his hometown to find work with his wife Mika. Reading a classified advertisement, the couple applies for jobs with a travel agency under the heading Departures. In fact, the jobs are with a Nokanshi funeral service, which prepares bodies for burial and the journey into the next life. Mika despises the job but Daigo takes pride in his new position and demonstrates meticulous attention to detail.
