The It’s Not Unusual singer will perform in Hyde Park on 28 July, the first day of the games.

The concert will be just one of a number of parties which will celebrate the start of the Olympics across the British capital, which will see performances from bands and DJs, as well as big screens showing all the action from the games.

London Mayor Boris Johnson said: “We’re presenting an unprecedented number of events to suit every taste and make this a summer like no other.

“It’s a fantastic way for hundreds of thousands of people to experience live Games action for free.”

Over one million people will be able to apply for over one million free tickets to attend the shows.

Other concerts around the Olympics include Snow Patrol, Stereophonics, Paolo Nutini, Duran Duran playing a live show on the night of the opening ceremony, 27 July, while another huge concert in Hyde Park will take place to close the games on 12 August featuring Blur, New Order and The Specials.

Other attractions during the Olympics include a giant wheel in Victoria Park, from which people will be able to see into the newly built Olympic stadium.
