ROBBIE WILLIAMS and Russell Brand are the vocalists for the new version of the England football song 3 Lions, which is released on Monday, ahead of next month’s World Cup.

“I’ve always been approached to write football songs but have always declined as I thought 3 Lions could never be beaten, so I am really happy to be part of this record,” said Williams.

The writers of the original – David Baddiel, Frank Skinner and The Lightning Seeds – are also involved this time around and legendary commentator John Motson gets in on the act, too.

Unlike in 1996, when 3 Lions was the official song of England’s European Championship campaign, the new track does not come with FA backing. Not that Brand and co. are bothered.

“It took me back to Euro ’96: Spice Boys, dentist’s chairs and Gazza’s last hurrah,” said Brand.

“I was embarrassed by how emotional I felt singing this song. I nearly cried.”

“It’s the only good England song and I look forward to singing it as we crash out on penalties. Then I will be crying.”

Brand is wrong about 3 Lions being the only good England song. World in Motion from World Cup 1990 was better.
